In fact I think the word I would use is obnoxious. .

This was very much a book about the journey rather than the destination and Winton, with his wonderful knack for language, kept me riveted the whole time. albany reflects the provincial, harsh, devastatingly masculine language of winton. Poor Scully. At first I wasn't sure how to feel about this book...on one hand, it's got wonderful, fluid prose.
