Surprised to see this better ranked than courses like Notts, West Sussex, Woking, etc. A feature of the course is the steep and large bunker complex's; my tip - keep out of them! I counted eight holes I thought were good - 4, 6, 7, 11, 12, 15, 16 and 18. The front 9 is better than the back in my opinion with some lovely holes on the front. Yes, I think the 17th could be shortened across the road to make a fairer test and the quirky last with its dog left left and easy to run out of fairway off your tee shot isn't my favourite or the best finishing hole, theses courses were built significantly time ago when clubs hit different distances and I love the quirkiness you get with older courses.Apart from the 17th, I enjoy every hole at Ganton. Since I last visited the club has opened the Vardon house (where Harry Vardon lived when pro in 1896) as a dormy house offering alternative accommodation to the Greyhound pub at the entrance to the property. It’s a decent hole but might need some bush and perhaps even a little tree removal. Fairly uninspiring golf holes in all honesty. Well defined and manicured fairways. Ranked 110 out of 2137.

The bunkers however do act like a magnet to the golf ball! Yes, the clubhouse is dated, but I think this is left deliberately so you step back in time and feel how it used to be, as much as enjoying the course as it is now. The finest course in Yorkshire is an inland links which has hosted the Ryder Cup, the Walker Cup and the Curtis Cup.

Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire The commentary dared one to be honest, so I will :-) I've played Ellerston 6 times.... As a good an inland course as you will find anywhere. Great practice facilities, nice clubhouse. A long drive will catch a natural speed slot and allow a mid to long iron approach to a tricky green. I'll get straight to the point, it didn't live up to expectations for me. Ganton continues with strong hole after strong hole, and by the time you finish the front 9 you realize how multiple rounds would be required to learn about this course and how best to play it.
Practice facilities top notch, friendly welcome in clubhouse and shop.
