the day of the triffids (1981)

They can communicate to each other using telepathy. Emma Relph was the actress who played Jo Payton. The situation is explored through the eyes of Bill Masen, who escaped being blinded by the meteor shower because he was in hospital with his eyes bandaged after being attacked by a triffid at the farm where he worked.TVTropes is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported License.

Der Roman gilt als Klassiker der SF-Literatur. I am specifically thinking about the Louis Jourdan version of Dracula which I fondly remembered but now seemed hokey with lame psychedelic effects. Meanwhile, the triffids are attacking.Bill and his new friend Jo find a group of other sighted people, some of whom plan to form a new community in the country, but no one takes seriously Bill's warning that the triffids are a serious threat.Bill is kidnapped and forced to be the eyes for a group of blind peopleBill's quest to find Jo leads him into the country, where he finds that disease and the triffids are wiping out humanity.Six years later, Bill and Jo consider the future of their farm as the triffids grow in numbers and a paramilitary group arrives with unpleasant orders. Well worth watching for any Wyndham fan. I really like this movie and was disappointed when both copies I received were defective. I first saw it on TV a few years ago. But together they are bent on the destruction of the human race. I had seen the original movie on VHS, but all the reviewers stated that the copy over to DVD was TERRIBLE, and that this BBC version was much truer to Wyndham's book!

His legacy in genetic engineering changed the hierarchy of nature, toppling mankind's place atop the world's food chain. I first saw it on TV a few years ago. I purchased this DVD due to Amazon reader's reviews! The 1981 BBC Day of the Triffids is a great series as the 2008 version is crap! (How do you break a videotape, I'd like to know?) With most of the world blinded and the dangerous carnivorous Triffids set loose, it falls upon a band of scattered survivors to fight this plant invasion and the madness following. Turns out that once you can put a satellite in orbit, it's only marginally more difficult and expensive to shoot one down.Masen and Josella barely escape the triffids that killed her family, only to be trapped in their car with a crowd of desperate blind people trying to break into it.Masen and Josella find refuge with Beadley's group. Apart from the long tedious section when John Wyndham is explaining how such outrageous objects as triffids came into being, it is an enjoyable book and a period piece, the nearest I ever get to science fiction. The book likens the Triffids to a collective intelligence like an ant colony or a bee hive, but individually they seem less intelligent. Day of the Triffids is an old film but a great one & John Duttine has a great part as the maid character I would recommend day of the Triffids to anyone. I would also recommend the book - The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham  TV Mini-Series Because he was recovering from eye surgery … The remaining blind are helpless and many fall prey to the Triffids' lethal whipping sting, but can the sighted keep this fearful plant at bay? An unknown virus pandemic kills more than 90% of the world's population. "The Day of the Triffids" television series renders faithfully John Wyndham's 1951 novel that established his name as a writer of science fiction. I received a replacement and had the same problem. A&E added its own Part 1 recap, narrated by its then commercial announcer, before the repeat of the opening titles, which were also used on Part 1. A hospitalised man awakes to a world of the blind, plagued by nightmarish plants that feed on human flesh. The contrast is no better demonstrated than placing The Day of the Triffids up against the film that came out the same year – Mad Max 2 (1981), which revolutionised film treatment of the post-holocaust and turned the venue into an action movie setting, a vision that could not be further removed from the sober, social perspectives that The Day of the Triffids takes. The three main performances of John Duttine, Maurice Colbourne and Emma Relph are very good and they are helped by a great supporting cast.

Bought this from Amazon UK on one of my trips home years ago and just got around to watching it. In a London hospital, Bill Masen is confined to his hospital bed with his eyes bandaged up after a Triffid sting at work. Please try againSorry, we failed to record your vote. I recently bought the DVD and the series remains as great as ever. Having recently read the book I decided it was time to go back and revisit the television series that actually terrified me as a kid. 13 May 2005 | bannonanthony No need to waste time endlessly browsing—here's the entire lineup of new movies and TV shows streaming on Netflix this month.
