Most people watching this movie, would not know the truth. Apart from Von Sydow the remaining cast are a mixture of second rate American and Asian actors who seem to me competing to give the worst possible performance in this piece of rubbish.
Having said this, most of the people today who are watching this movie, do not know or realize that the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, were in retaliation to the horrific unprovoked attack upon Pearl Harbor, by the Japanese, that resulted in the deaths of many thousands of innocent Americans, mostly young men, and also destroyed much of America's Pacific fleet. I can't say for sure but it does show what the bomb did to the characters it focused on and makes me wonder.....is war really worth it? Its an important lesson on what America has done during "wartime." This movie should be shown in schools actually, so generations will not forget how devastating this was and begin to really understand that war is not a good solution, ever.

Scenes featuring the latter are almost farsical. What is truly tragic, is that it's the politicians who create the wars, but it's mostly innocent people, on both sides, who suffer. I don't think the makers of this film researched period photos or they would have not depicted people with neatly combed hair. Is it totally accurate with it's information? It was hard enough for ME to see it! The Japanese were the aggressors, not America. Max von Sydow provides the most interesting character and story but is given the least amount of screentime of the several protagonists. This is every bit of a 5 star movie...and I believe anyone who watches this will concur !
